Through our councils, we provide a platform for students to express themselves, share their experiences, and actively participate in shaping a peaceful and just community. We encourage the active engagement of all students, regardless of their background, abilities, or beliefs.
Justice, Peace, & Compassion Council (Middle School)
The Justice, Peace, and Compassion Council is committed to fostering a peaceful and inclusive environment within our school community and beyond. With a steadfast dedication to justice and peacemaking, we aim to cultivate understanding, empathy, and cooperation among all individuals. Through proactive initiatives, open dialogue, and restorative practices, we strive to resolve conflicts peacefully and promote harmonious relationships.
Equity & Inclusion Council (Upper School)
The mission of the Equity and Inclusion Council is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel valued and respected, regardless of their socioeconomic background. We aim to promote cultural understanding and awareness, celebrate diversity, and foster a sense of community among all members of our school. Through education, advocacy, and meaningful dialogue, we strive to cultivate a safe and equitable campus culture that values and uplifts the voices and experiences of all students.
Student Union & Alliance Groups
Alliance/Student Unions refer to collaborative associations typically guided by an adult mentor, that welcome individuals beyond the specific group they represent. Those involved in Alliances and Student Unions embrace the role of an Ally and are motivated to enhance knowledge, comprehension, and understand of a designated community.
Participation in any group is optional, and there is no requirement to sign up. If you would like to create, explore, or deepen your understanding of Affinity or Alliance Groups please contact Jennie Claiborne, Head of Equity, Inclusion, and Community.
MLK Peace Walk
The MLK Peace Walk at the Connelly School of the Holy Child is an annual event dedicated to honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In June of 1966, Holy Child Jesus Catholic Church in Canton, Mississippi, found itself at the heart of the civil rights movement. During a peace march led by Martin Luther King Jr., parishioners were threatened, bombed, and tear gassed. This significant historical event serves as a powerful backdrop for the school's walk, symbolizing the courage and resilience displayed by those who fought for equality. Today, students, faculty, and the wider community gather for the walk, reaffirming their commitment to peace, justice, and the principles that Dr. King stood for. Through this meaningful event, the Connelly School of the Holy Child not only remembers the past but also strives to inspire a future where equality and harmony prevail.
AIMS Baltimore Student Diversity Leadership Conference (BSDLC)
The AIMS Baltimore Student Diversity Leadership Conference (BSDLC) is a high school diversity and equity leadership training event that is planned by and led by area high school students. Each year, the BSDLC conference draws approximately 400 high school youth and teachers! Students of all backgrounds, regions (MD, DC, VA, DE, etc.) and experience levels are welcome to participate in the conference
Community Time
Community Time celebrations are a vital part of Holy Child. They unite students, faculty, and the wider community, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect. These events honor diverse cultures, promote understanding, and cultivate inclusive and globally minded students.
Sister Thea Bowman LeadHERship Conference
This inspirational and informative learning experience marks a significant moment as we continue to shape women of Actions not Words. The conference is divided into four strands: faith, culture and heritage, leadership, and social impact. Each presentation and workshop provide opportunities to learn more about the experiences of people like and unlike us, celebrate cultural diversity, develop our leadership skills, and to think more about how we can make the world a better place.
Black Student Fund School Fair
The Holy Child community recognizes the profound importance of attending the Black Student Fund School Fair. This event provides a unique opportunity to actively support and engage with the mission of the Black Student Fund, which strives to provide equitable access to quality education for Black students. By participating in the fair, Holy Child demonstrates its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice. It allows the school to connect with talented students and families, fostering a welcoming environment where all individuals can thrive academically and personally. Through this participation, Holy Child actively contributes to creating a more equitable educational landscape and a brighter future for all students.
