Clubs & Organizations - Connelly School of the Holy Child

Passion comes in many forms.

We strive to ensure every student leaves Holy Child having found her passion and the opportunity to seek leadership roles. For some, that’s on the athletic field or the stage, and for others it happens at our Annual Club Fair. Students can join an array of clubs on campus or take on the leadership role of starting a new club!

As the years progress our clubs have changed and progressed with them. Holy Child and our clubs will continue to grow and adapt as the needs of the world develop around us.

Leadership in Action

In addition to holding a leadership post in one of our many clubs or athletic teams, students may be elected to lead as a member of Student Government, or chosen to be part of our Student Ambassador Leader Program. There are numerous other opportunities within classroom settings and schoolwide events to hone your skills as a leader.

Upper School Student Government

Upper School Student Government is made up of the Student Body President and Vice President, four Class Presidents (9th-12th grade), and eight Class Representatives (two per grade for 9th-12th). The student body elects the school’s President and Vice President, while each grade elects their respective class’s President & Representatives. Members of Student Government are expected to be model citizens of the community by upholding the school’s Honor Code, attend and support school events, maintain an open communication between peers and faculty, and encourage the spirit of school unity. Over the summer, all members of upper school SGA are expected to attend a two-day workshop called Leadership Lab, where students engage in team building activities, learn about themselves as leaders, and begin planning for the school year. Upper school SGA members are also tasked with hosting events and fundraising opportunities on campus including Blue/Gold Game Day, Holly Ball, Halloween Candy Grams, SGA Breakfasts, and more.

Middle School Student Government

The Middle School Student Government is elected in the fall and provides leadership for the middle school. Members of the Student Government are trained in leadership skills including how to establish agendas, run meetings, public speaking, and interact in an exemplary manner with their peers and faculty members. The middle school SGA helps to organize middle school tag days, Teacher Appreciation Day, fundraisers, social events, and other fun activities throughout the school year. The middle school SGA is made up of a Student Body President (8th grade), Student Body Vice President (7th grade), Student Body Secretary (6th grade), Student Body Treasurer (6th, 7th, or 8th grade), Blue and Gold Team Captains (both 8th grade and appointed by the faculty), and a representative from each middle school homeroom.

The National Honor Society

The Cornelian branch of the National Honor Society inducts students for membership based on nominations and vote by committee. These students must maintain a 3.5 GPA and excel in all four pillars of the society: character, service, leadership, and scholarship. The National Honor Society members provide peer-to-peer academic tutoring, run an annual blood drive, support school fundraisers and charity events, and partake in quarterly service projects around the DC area.

Freshmen Hostess and Student Ambassador Leader Program

The Holy Child Freshmen Hostess and Student Ambassador Leader (SAL) Programs are opportunities for leadership as representatives for our school. Students must apply to be selected for the SAL Program, and go through training sessions to learn the best practices for being an official student representative of Holy Child.

As freshmen, our students have the opportunity to serve as hostesses for shadow visitors, and SALs apply and are selected from 10th, 11th, and 12th grades to assist in the recruitment of future students to represent Holy Child at various function in the school and community.

As the representatives of Holy Child, Hostesses and SALs reflect the best of the school by upholding our values and school mission at all times.

The student leaders, club members, and their club moderators work diligently throughout the school year to support their club, raise money for their cause, host on-and-off campus events, and much more. This creates opportunities for our students to be challenged creatively in both an individual and group setting.
